February 8, 2007 – Harvest PR & Marketing, Inc. has been selected as public relations agency of record by the National Cottonseed Product Association, Inc., Cordova, Tenn.
Harvest PR will develop and execute a public relations campaign to raise the visibility of and demand for cottonseed oil as a healthy vegetable oil.
“We’re confident that Harvest PR has the right mix of expertise in trade and consumer public relations to create awareness for CSO among the audiences that will make a difference,” notes Ben Morgan, executive director of the association. “We’re looking forward to kicking off this new relationship.”
Harvest PR principal Heidi Nelson says the current national discussion over trans fats in our nation’s food supply makes cottonseed oil an especially palatable subject. “Ccttonseed oil is the original trans fat-free oil, after all.”
NCPA is the national trade association for the cottonseed processing industry. In addition to the U.S. cottonseed crushing industry, association membership includes refiners, who process cottonseed oil into semi-finished and finished products, dealers and brokers who market cottonseed products, and other firms that provide goods and services to the industry.

April 27, 2006 – At the Oregon Chapter of the American Marketing Association’s (AMA) “Innovative Ideas in Marketing” conference and MAX Award competition last week, Harvest PR & Marketing was awarded second place overall for its public relations entry for Pear Bureau Northwest.
Presented annually, the MAX Award celebrates original ideas, clever marketing concepts and measurable client results. Harvest PR and the Pear Bureau’s entry, “A Pear Refresher,” stood up against competitors from across Oregon and southwest Washington in a variety of communications disciplines. The New York City media tour and media outreach campaign “refreshed” national food editors on the quintessential Northwest fruit, providing information on varieties, availability, nutrition and ripening.
“Our campaign was very strategic in that our key messages aligned with consumer misunderstandings about pears,” said Laura Wieking, public relations manager of the Milwaukie, Ore.-based commodity commission that represents 84 percent of the nation’s fresh pear production.
“For example, we used quantitative data to identify areas that we were seeking coverage on, such as educating consumers on proper pear ripening.” A 2001 study found that only eight percent of consumers knew the right place to test a pear for ripeness, which is to Check the Neck™.
The media tour resulted in prominent national coverage for Northwest pears, including stories in Good Housekeeping, Family Circle, Fitness, Shape and Fine Cooking. Wieking adds: “With Harvest PR’s outstanding coordination and planning assistance, we definitely influenced the editorial content of these features - the articles outlined ripening tips and other key messages that we offered during our presentations.”
